New Books from Rising Tide Press

 

On November 26, 2005, Rising Tide's first three titles will be presented at a launching to be held at the Killam Library in Yarmouth, NS.  I've already noted mine on my main page.  The short-story collection, A Matter of Coincidence, has been written by John Nause, also from this area. The third title, Rising Tide One, is a chapbook containing winners and other selections from the inaugural poetry competition sponsored by R.T. Press. The second contest is in the works and will soon be accepting entries. I was fortunate enough to have won the first one, and my poetry collection is essentially a spinoff from that success.

For anyone who might be considering submission of your poetry to one or more contests, even if you've never won anything in your lives and feel hesitant to expose your work to judgment, I have only three words of advice:  Go for it! Publishers and editors love to discover new voices and emerging talent. We are their bread and butter, folks. They do us favours through publishing what we've written but we do them even greater favours by providing them with the material. It's a mutual process, so why not try your hand at entering a contest and see what might happen?

You won't necessarily win but you'll gain confidence and be motivated to keep plugging away at it. Some competitions, such as the Writers' Federation of NS Atlantic Writing Awards, offer entrants the chance to receive judges' feedback. Trust me, this is priceless information and well worth the modest entry fee.  Good luck with your writing.
